Poker’s growth and popularity has created a noteworthy problem, which threatens its ability to grow. The problem is a profound lack of professionally trained dealers.

What a poker dealer can expect to make:

An average dealer will normally make a dollar in tips per hand dealt, along with their base pay. The average amount of hands dealt per work session is somewhere in the fifteen to seventeen hands per “down” (a down is typically thirty minutes). Subsequently, in an eight hour period, the average dealer will usually cash out anywhere from $170 - $200 in tips a day - sometimes more. A great dealer can expect to make much more.

How does one become a poker dealer?

Casino dealer schools - If you are not near a casino, it could cost several hundreds of dollars in travel and lodging costs, on top of your course fees. Typically, a good school will give you 90+ hours of training on the most common types of poker. The best schools would be difficult to judge since currently there is no official ranking for them. Do your due diligence when choosing a poker dealer school.

Classified ads - Look in your local papers and magazines.

Promoters or Event planners - These people will be more than happy to put you in touch with companies that arrange corporate poker nights.

Directors - These folks run the poker tournaments. Tell them that you are a professionally trained dealer and that you are looking for an opportunity to work.
